When You Feel Like Quitting but Know You Can’t (Part 1)
Mar 04, 2025
There comes a time in every journey when the thought of quitting feels more tempting than the thought of pushing forward. Maybe it’s a business you started, a fitness goal you set, or a dream you’ve been chasing for years. At first, it was exciting. You had a vision, motivation, and a fire inside you that couldn’t be put out.
But now? Now you’re tired. Doubt creeps in. The results aren’t coming as fast as you hoped. The setbacks feel personal. The path ahead feels too long.
I get it. I’ve been there. And in those moments, I’ve asked myself:
- What if I just stopped?
- What if I walked away?
- Would anyone even notice?
But here’s the thing—quitting doesn’t erase the dream. It only guarantees that I’ll never reach it.
The Story of the Two Travelers
There’s an old fable about two travelers who set off to find a hidden treasure buried deep in the mountains. They had a map, supplies, and a shared determination to reach their goal.
For weeks, they climbed. The path was rough, the storms were brutal, and the exhaustion was real.
One day, one traveler had enough. “This is pointless,” he said. “We’ve been climbing forever, and we have nothing to show for it. The treasure probably isn’t even real.”
The other traveler hesitated but decided to keep going. “We started this for a reason,” he said. “I’m not quitting now.”
So, they parted ways. The first traveler turned back, defeated. The second traveler pressed on, alone.
Two days later, just beyond the next ridge, he found it—the treasure, buried exactly where the map had said it would be.
Had the first traveler continued, he would have made it, too. But he let doubt win. He gave up when he was just steps away from what he had been searching for.
How often do we do the same? We stop just before the breakthrough. We quit right before things start to turn in our favor.

You’ve Come Too Far to Quit Now
Before you decide to quit, remind yourself:
- You started for a reason – There was a vision that got you here. Don’t let temporary struggles make you forget it.
- You don’t want to live with ‘what ifs’ – If you stop now, you’ll always wonder what could have happened if you had just kept going.
- Your best self is on the other side of perseverance – Growth happens in the hard moments, not the easy ones.
So, if today feels impossible, take a break, but don’t quit. Because just beyond the next ridge, your breakthrough might be waiting.
